Patricia Wright

John L. Wright and Patricia A. Wright

John was born in Glendale, CA, Apr. 13, 1934 to John and Thelma Wright. He passed away Nov. 14, 2020. John attended Grants Pass, OR schools before enlisting in the United States Air force on Nov. 13, 1951, served in the Korean war, and was awarded the DFC and 2 Air Medals.

Pat was born in Westover, PA, Jan. 14, 1936 to Paul and Dorothy Wagner. She passed away Aug. 23, 2022 just before what would have been their 67th anniversary. Pat attended Ambridge, PA schools before enlisting in the United States Air Force.

John and Pat met while serving in the USAF at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas. They were married on Sept. 3, 1955, returning to the Grants Pass area after both were honorably discharged. They lived in Klamath Falls while John attended OIT to become a welder. After receiving his certifications, John and Pat moved to the Rogue Valley for work. They purchased a home in Phoenix where they lived for the next 60+ years.

John and Pat raised 3 children; Diana, John, and Chris. John worked at Medford Steel, Tucker Sno-Cat, and as an OTR Truck driver. Pat worked at Harry and David, before returning to school at SOU, earning a BS degree in Criminology. John joined the all-volunteer Phoenix Fire Department and Civil Air Patrol. Pat volunteered at the Phoenix Police Department and was the first female reserve Patrol Officer. After graduation Pat obtained a position with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

In retirement, John and Pat joined the local VFW and Auxiliary. They spent 1,000’s of hours volunteering for veteran causes, including supporting veterans at SORCC and working with the DAV.

John and Pat are survived by their children and spouses: Diana and Russell Matzkanin; John and Keleen Wright; Chris and Caitlin Wright. Their grandchildren: Laura and Steven Worthington; Jene’ and Dylan Chanquet; Eric and Jill Wright; Charlotte Drake; Julie Wright; Lauren Rines; Amber Wright; and many great-grandchildren.
