Harold “Butch” S. Neff
October 18, 1940 – April 20, 2010
Butch, 69, of Canby, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Providence St. Vincent Hospital, Portland. He was born October 18, 1940 in Tacoma, Washington to parents S. T. “Jim” and Hilda Neff. On November 24, 1961 in Springfield, Oregon, he married Janice “Jan” Mauzey, who survives.
Butch and his family moved to the Langlois-Bandon area in 1946. He attended school in Langlois and graduated from Pacific High School in 1958. He attended the University of Portland and graduated from the University of Oregon in 1964 with the Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He returned to teach and coach at Bandon High School and was the head basketball coach for many years. In 1974 he retired from teaching and he and Jan and David moved to Canby. Butch became a State Farm Insurace agent and opened his own State Farm office in 1974. During his association with State Farm, Butch received many achievement awards including trips throughout the world. He was very active in the Canby community with bowling, coaching youth baseball, and participating in the annual Canby parade. He was very active with the Canby Kiwanas Club and had served as president. Butch had a passion for his family, friends, golf, work, and life in general.
Other survivors include his son, David of Aurora; sister, Marilyn Wigle (Darrell) of Bouse, Arizona; brothers Ben Neff (Kathy) of Jerome, Idaho, Bob Neff (Leah) of Medford, Oregon; grandsons, Brady and Kirby Neff of Canby; mother-in-law, Annette Mauzey of Canby; brother-in-law, Michael Mauzey of Canby and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Jim Mauzey.
