Obituary for Audrey E. Nelson

Audrey E. Nelson passed away April 9, 2018. She was born June 26, 1921 in Klamath Falls, Oregon to Willard and Charlotte (Yager) Mattson. After graduating from Klamath Union High School, Audrey attended Oregon College of Education (now Western Oregon University) in Monmouth, Ore. She met her future husband, Robert E. Nelson, while in college.
Audrey and Bob married July 26, 1942 in Stockton, California, when he received his pilot's wings. After Bob's discharge from the Army Air Force, the Nelsons moved back to Oregon. They lived for many years in their home at Gold Rey Estates outside of Gold Hill. From 1968 to 1981, Audrey owned and operated a successful women's clothing store called Sample Fashions. She was a lifelong Christian Scientist and a member of First Church of Christ, Scientists, Medford. After Bob's death in 1994, Audrey relocated to the Alder Creek West neighborhood in Medford. In 2008, Audrey became one of the first residents at Veranda Park, where she lived independently in her cottage until her death.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Bob. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Raw (George); son, Robert Bryan Nelson (Katy); grandsons, Robert Gomez (Barb), Julio Gomez (Erika), Derek Nelson, and Noel Nelson; and three great-granddaughters.
