Obituary for Gordon Harold Pearce

Gordon Harold Pearce – husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son, and friend – passed away April 2, 2018. He was born November 22, 1929 at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital in Los Angeles to Franklyn and Harold Pearce.
After attending Hollywood High School, Gordon attended UCLA, receiving his BA in Economics (Phi Beta Kappa). He went on to receive his Juris Doctor at the UCLA Law School, receiving the Order of the Colif. After UCLA, Gordon spent two years in the army in Heidelberg, Germany. During that time, he met his wife, Marlise, at the foot of the Matterhorn after his successful ascent in August 1956.
After leaving the Army, Gordon went into private practice in Los Angeles and became general counsel for Western Airlines. In addition to his legal work, he served as president on the UCLA Alumni Association and was an associate professor at the Law School. Gordon went on to be general counsel and sat on the board of directors for San Diego Gas & Electric before retiring in 1984. While in San Diego, h began his lifelong membership in Rotary International, during which he achieved recognition for 20 years of perfect attendance and his work on behalf of Rotary with youth leadership in the San Diego area.
After moving with Marlise to Solvang, California in 1985, Gordon became very active in the Santa Ynez Valley Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, member of the pastor-nominating committee, and representing the church as part of the Santa Barbara Presbytery. During that time, Gordon wrote From Skeptic to Christian: Persuaded by the Evidence, an apologetics book inspired by his own journey to faith. In 2001, he and Marlise moved to the Rogue Valley Manor in Medford. While at RVM, Gordon served on the Resident Council and was the liaison between the council and the Rogue Valley Manor board. He was also on the board of directors of the Community Health Center.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marlise; their two children; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
While he is deeply missed, Gordon’s impact can be seen every day in the lives of all who knew him.

A celebration of Life service will be held June 15 at 2:00 p.m. in the Rogue Room at Skyline Plaza at Rogue Valley Manor. Everyone is welcome!
