Obituary for Earl Albert Kurz

Earl Albert Kurz was born June 22, 1926 on Antelope Creek, near Eagle Point, Oregon. He passed away March 4, 2018 after suffering a stroke the previous week. Earl was the fourth of six children born to E. Paul Kurz and Grace Austin Kurz. He and his family spent many years on their 40 acres on Antelope Creek, until the government bought them out to use the property for part of Camp White. The family then relocated to DeBarr Avenue in Medford.
Earl served in the Navy during WWII, and after his return he married Dorothy Evalina Schuler of Talent September 22, 1944. Earl worked at service stations, logging, and Courtesy Chevrolet until he opened Earl Kurz Body & Paint at his home in 1958. He worked there until he retired at age 90. Earl loved bringing vintage cars back to life and beauty. He was the first president of the “RV Old Timers Car Club” and a member of the “Horseless Carriage Club.” His siblings, Louis, Lena, Walter, David, and Ruth Kurz Mellecker all preceded him in death.
Earl and Dorothy had two sons, Kenneth Earl Kurz of Jacksonville, Ore. and Gary Alan Kurz of Talent, who died in 1985. Earl is survived by his wife of 73 years, Dorothy Kurz; his son, Ken Kurz; Ken’s Children, Darin Kurz, Corey A. Kurz and Megan Kurz Robeson; and Gary’s son, Gene Alan Kurz. He also leaves five beautiful and much-loved great-granddaughters.
Earl’s life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10 at Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.
