Obituary for Betty Jeanne Keenan McCoy

Betty McCoy, 88, of Central Point, Oregon, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at home after battling Alzheimer’s disease for eight long years. She was born February 22, 1929 in Alameda, California to Hazel and Cecil Keenan and moved with her family to Central Point in 1942 where she lived for the majority of her life. Betty married Jack McCoy June 27, 1948 and they were one month short of 60 years of marriage when Jack passed away.
Betty graduated from Southern Oregon College of Education (SOU) in 1949 and taught elementary school in Medford and Shady Cove briefly before having their family. She finished her teaching career of 20 more years in Central Point School District at Central Point Elementary and Jewett Elementary Schools. In retirement Betty and Jack loved traveling with friends in their RV as well as attending their grandchildren’s sporting events. But Betty and Jack’s favorite time was when their family was around them telling stories and laughing.
Betty is survived by her three children, daughter, Susan Dippel (Greg) and sons, Brian McCoy (Ilene) and Kevin McCoy (Kennon); as well as nieces, Karyn Lynch, Diane Miller, Marla Kuresa, and Janis Jantzer. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Scott Dippel (Jennifer), Erin Stidham (Ryan), Katie Swanson (Patrick), Riley McCoy, Robert Wiersma (Deirdre), Chassie Wiersma, Cherrith Young (Keith), Addie Dabrowski (Josh), Austin Wiersma (Marquie), Lacey York (Tyler), Dee Wiersma, Max Mecham, and Erin Mecham, along with 16 precious great-grandchildren, Kate, Addison, Kendall, Harper, Macy, Mack, Gavin, Nevaeh, Jaxon, Taylor, Brynlee, Tatum, Dalton, Rilyn, Nash, and Malachi. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; and sister, Marilyn Jantzer.
A life-long Lutheran, Betty was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Medford. A family celebration of Betty and her life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crater Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 5172, Central Point, OR, 97502.
Our family is very grateful for the compassionate care that Don and Tina Dean and their family showed to our Mother in caring for her as her health declined.
