Obituary for Ray Skiles

After a hard-fought battle with heart disease and diabetes, Ray "Pops" Skiles, 80, of Medford passed away January 24, 2018 at Avamere Rehabilitation Center. He was born September 4, 1937 in White Salmon, Washington to Benjamin and Helen Skiles.
During his life Ray was an avid basketball player. He enjoyed gardening and loved woodworking and spending time with family and friends. He was never idle and attacked life with tenacity and a positive attitude.
Ray was married January 21, 1956 to the love of his life, Dora May "Dee" Shaw in Drain, Oregon. Together they moved to the Rogue Valley where they have been residents for over 50 years. They raised two children, Terie Sousa of Medford and Danny Skiles of Grants Pass.
Ray retired from Boise Cascade in 1998 and volunteered as a camp host for 17 years with Oregon State Parks.
He is survived by his wife, Dora May "Dee" Skiles; children, Terie Sousa (Dan) and Danny Skiles; his sister, Patt Badger; grandchildren, Chelsea Kendall (Jon), Traci Turnball (Ryan), Daniel Sousa, and Kaylene Skiles (Ryan Ward). Ray also has seven great-grandchildren whom he loved very much, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Skiles, Betty Ward, and Jack Skiles; his daughter-in-law, Sandra Skiles; and grandsons Cory Skiles and Jason Menteer.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 3 at Ashland Christian Fellowship, 50 W. Hersey St, Ashland, OR, officiated by Mark Anderson. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Children's Advocacy Center, 816 W. 10th St, Medford, OR.
