Obituary for Coe Eugene Brown

Coe Eugene Brown passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, Oregon, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband, loyal father, good neighbor, and faithful friend to many on this earth, but is now at peace in Heaven with his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was 84, but was still young at heart.
Born September 22, 1933 in Oakland, California, Coe moved in the late 1940s with his family to Medford, Ore., and graduated from Medford High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Monterey, Calif. For four years. In 1960 he married Elaine Nelson, his precious wife of nearly 54 years. Shortly after his military service, he began working as an auto body man, and worked for nearly 40 years at Crater Lake Ford, retiring in 1995. He continued to do auto body work for friends and family in his home shop long after his retirement.
He is survived by his three daughters, Dianna Atterbury of Monroe, Washington, Kelly Lambert (Brian) of Eagle Point, Ore., and Colleen Padilla of Medford, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and his dear friend and companion, Wilma Glenn of Phoenix, Ore. In addition to his beloved wife, Elaine Brown, he was preceded in death by his first daughter from a previous marriage, Kari Wolterman; his parents, Thomas and Daisy Brown; four sisters, Doris Wellman, Mariam Garcia, Virginia Hayse, and Dottie Bailey; and two brothers, Thomas and Franklin Brown.
Coe enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting, along with motorcycling, skiing, rock and coin collecting, and working around his house. He was an avid bowler for well over 50 years, often bowling three leagues a week, and was inducted in the Rogue Valley Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1982 for meritorious service. Many fellow bowlers always knew he’d be there on time, be certain the score sheet was completed, and have plenty of snack-size candy bars on hand to share. In his most recent years, he spent most of his time tending to the lawn and gardens at home, while sharing produce, lilacs, irises, and assorted bulbs with any passerby who cared to stop and pick some out of his rusty wheelbarrow in the driveway. He will be dearly missed by all.
The memorial service to celebrate Coe’s life and service to so many will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 2017 at New Beginnings Church, 5889 Crater Lake Hwy, Central Point, OR. Pastor Don Calvert will officiate, and light refreshments will be served thereafter. Memorial contributions may be made to New Beginnings Church.
