Obituary for Clara (CB) Elizabeth Powell Doe

Clara Elizabeth (CB) Powell Doe passed away of natural causes at the age of 100, Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2017 at her birthplace in Medford, Oregon.
She was born June 11, 1917 to parents, Herman D. and Blanche Wood Powell, in the house her father built on Valley View Drive in northeast Medford. Her siblings were Jane, Bobbie, and Louise, all deceased.
CB attended Roosevelt Grade School and Medford Junior High and High School. On March 25, 1937 she married Paul R. Doe in Baker City, Oregon. They lived in Bates and Austin, Ore., where Paul worked in the lumber industry. They moved to Vancouver, Washington during the war years, where Paul worked in the shipyards while CB cared for her two children, Roy L. and JoAnn A. The family returned to Bates after the war, then moved to Medford in 1949 to be nearer to family. Paul worked for Ross Lumber Co., which eventually became Olson-Lawyer Lumber and Veneer, retiring as general manager in 1975.
They moved back to eastern Oregon and developed a small ranch near Prairie City from which they based horse-camping trips into the Eagle Cap Wilderness and Hells Canyon. While in Prairie City, CB was active in the garden club, home extension, United Methodist Women, and volunteered at the Senior Center. Over the years, she became an 8-gallon Blood Donor.
After downsizing the ranch life with two-year stay in Prineville, the Does returned to Medford to be near family, son, Roy since deceased; daughter, JoAnn Parker (Guy) of Prospect; and grandchildren, Pam Card (Mike) of Jacksonville, Susan Parker and Jane Moffitt (Eric) of Salem, and Kevin Durland (Carolina) of Jacksonville; and six great-grandchildren.
She will be interred beside Paul in the Prairie City, Ore. cemetery. A service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2017 at Grace Chapel in Prairie City. Those wishing to contribute in Clara Beth’s memory may make a donation to the Paul and Clara Beth Doe Scholarship Fund at Prairie City High School. We are deeply indebted to Pina Rose of Caring Hands Foster Home for her loving care of “Gam” during her final months.
