Obituary for Wilbur (Wib) Lawrence Hart

Wilbur Lawrence Hart (Wib) went to his heavenly home May 17, 2019 at the age of 99. He was born on Easter Sunday, April 4, 1920 in Muscatine, Iowa, to Grace and Leo Hart. He had only one brother, Leo.
Wib met and later married the love of his life, Dorothy Pace, in 1940. Wib enlisted and served in the United States Army from 1940-1945. He was stationed on the Ledo-Burma Road in Northern India and served in the medical corps. He achieved the rank of Captain and received the American Defense Ribbon, the Asiatic Combat Ribbon, the Bronze Star, and the American Victory Medal.
Eventually, Wib, Dorothy, and family, moved to California and later Oregon.
In 2010, Wib moved into the Fountain Plaza where he made many new friends. He enjoyed driving his red scooter near the street so he could wave to all those who drove by. It didn’t take long before many Medford residents looked forward to seeing the old man in the cowboy hat, sitting on his scooter, waving to all who drove by. Wib decided everyone needs to be noticed and feel special and these people were that to him. And when they waved back, they made him feel special too.
Wib is survived by his three daughters, Lannie Hooker, Diane Pond (Ken), and Melody Verhees (Neil). Also, seven grandchildren: Richard Jr, Dale, Robin Borg, Mychal Pond, Ryan Thomas, Joy Taylor, and Jessica Thomas Ezell, together with 20 great-grandchildren.
We will miss him, but we will see him again.
