Obituary for Laurie Burke

Laurie (Laura) Lee Burke was born January 26, 1958 in Monterey, California to Leroy and Margaret Meyer. In October of the same year they moved to what would eventually become the beloved Storybook Farm in Falls City, Oregon. Over the next few years she became a big sister to two wonderful brothers, Jeff and Brian, with whom she was able to share fond memories with at the Farm, such as feeding the animals, doing farm chores, riding the tractor in the snow, and taking long car rides to Dallas for an ice cream cone which was such a treat. She attended Falls City High School and graduated Salutatorian in 1976.
In 1980 Laurie met her future husband, Tim, on a ride-a-long on an ambulance with the Monmouth Fire Department during her EMT training as he was completing his firefighting training. On August 8, 1981 they were married and moved to Medford, Oregon, where Tim had begun a career with the Medford Fire Department. In 1983 they welcomed their first son, Allen, and in 1985 their second son, Stephen. Her children were very precious to her and she often shared fond memories of them growing up and proudly supported their accomplishments.
In 1996 she began working at Fountain Plaza as the night shift personal care attendant until her retirement in April 2018. She had fond memories of many of her coworkers and was most excited when she won a work raffle that was an all-expense paid trip to Hawaii! Nobody could think of anyone more deserving that Laurie who was a valuable employee and rarely called in. Fountain Plaza was supportive of her when she needed time off to care for her son, Allen, and she was so thankful for that.
The gospel was very important to Laurie and her family, and she professed when she was nine years old. She served the Lord faithfully until she was called home on the morning of February 18, 2019 after a brief battle with cancer.
Laurie is survived by her husband, Tim Burke of White City, Oregon; son, Stephen (Veronica) Burke of White City, Oregon; mother, Margaret Meyer of White City, Oregon; and brother, Jeff (Kim Meyer of Kimball, Nebraska. She is preceded in death by her son, Allen Burke; her father, Leroy Meyer; and her brother, Brian Meyer.
Extra special thank you to Providence Hospice and their staff, Randy, RN, Shane, RN, Paul RN, Nicole, LCSW, Wendy, bath aid, and Dr. Gramley who provided the most excellent, loving, and professional care.
The funeral is set for Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 10am at Jefferson Elementary, 333 Holmes Ave., Medford, Oregon 97501. Finger food potluck reception immediately following.
