Obituary for Marylyn Grace (Dotson) Anderson

Marylyn Grace (Dotson) Anderson passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the age of 82. Marylyn was born June 1, 1935 in Shelton, Washington to John Dotson and Clara Davis. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Seattle in 1953 as Valedictorian, and went on to graduate from the University of Washington with a degree in Music Performance. She completed her Masters in Music at Sacramento State University. Marylyn married Galen Anderson of Sumner, Wash., in the Salt Lake Temple in Sale Lake City, Utah January 5, 1959 and they recently celebrated 59 years of marriage together.
Marylyn was blessed with a genetic predisposition to musical talent in all forms. She matured into a world-class soprano, where her talents led her to perform at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and tours to Montreal, Miami, and Havana, Cuba among other venues in the 1950s. She was also a classically trained pianist and organist and served in several church music positions and taught numerous students over the years. Also, blessed with beauty she was a model and participated in pageants winning Miss Union Label and 1st runner-up in the 1956 Seafair Pageant in Seattle, Wash.
She is survived by her husband, Galen; her three children, David, Stephen, and Christena; and by her two grandchildren, Kimberly and Jacob.
Marylyn was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, David and Richard.
A viewing will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2141 Brookhurst St. in Medford, Oregon. The funeral will follow the viewing at 1:00 p.m., also at that location.
